Living Willow
Living willow is available only in the spring and comes in lengths of 8-13 feet. It is used to make living willow fences (fedge) and living structures such as domes and tunnels. Generally you want to add about 2 feet to the intended height as you will need to push about a foot of length into the ground and want at least a foot of extra length to finish off with.
We made our first living willow fence last year as an experiment using past their prime rods and planting near the end of April. Despite watering it just once, it all grew pretty well.
We recommend weed suppression for the first few years. This is easiest done by laying down cardboard and a thick layer of mulch. It also helps retain moisture in the heat of summer.
It is a little hard to see, but it's a corner with a half dome over the corner about 60 feet long. We used approx 70 x 8' rods, 6 x 10' for extra support on the ends and 3 x 12' for the arch.
You can find so many designs and images online. Try using the search term : fedge.
